The collection of the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden contains a treasury of information from ancient times. The museum’s Pharaohs’ Gardens exhibition brings flowers, plants, herbs and trees from Ancient Egypt to Leiden. The exhibition is laid out as a garden with a central fish pond, temples and luxurious houses, much like the impressive gardens of ancient-Egyptian palaces.

Lotus bulbs, Papyrus flowers and an ancient fresco formed the basis for the illustrations of the campaign imagery. The garden illustrations were designed from scratch, as the fresco’s visual appeal can best be seen up-close, the impact of which is limited at a distance. As the illustrations grew and blossomed, an powerful campaign image developed, which was consequently used on banners, posters, advertisements and flyers. The exhibition is open to visitors from April to September 2012. Summer will visit the museum, also inside its walls…
